At Heritage House Furniture, we focus not only on providing you with the most comfortable, beautiful furniture for your home, but also share a commitment to caring for the members of our community. Throughout July, we held a charity promotion in which customers giving $50 or more to our chosen charity would receive hundreds of dollars off their purchase of Stressless furniture pieces, including recliners, sofas, and office chairs.
For this promotion, donations benefited the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul, an international volunteer organization working with the Little Flower Catholic Parish of Toledo, Ohio.
What Is the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul?
This organization comprises men and women seeking to serve their community as Christian stewards by offering direct person-to-person service to local individuals in need of assistance in their daily lives. For 175 years, it has served the most vulnerable individuals of communities around the world, helping to alleviate poverty by providing tangible assistance as well as spiritual nourishment. Every year, SVDP helps over 5 million people in the United States. In 2018, almost 100,000 volunteers performed 12.5 million hours of service valued at over $1 billion.
What Services Does It Provide?
Working with the Little Flower Catholic Parish, the SVDP serves the Toledo community by providing food, clothing, household items, and financial assistance to families in need. It coordinates food distributions to 250 families per month, scheduling home visits for those unable to make the trip to the food pantry. Families also receive clothing, shoes, winter coats, blankets, furniture, and other household items. Financial support is provided to help families pay for rent, utilities, and emergencies. During the holiday season, 275 families receive holiday food baskets, seasonal items, and toys.
How Has COVID-19 Impacted Volunteer Work?
As many individuals experience increased difficulty during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul has adapted its daily work to accommodate changing needs. Low-income individuals and families are those most profoundly impacted by the pandemic, losing employment and facing mounting anxiety over the prospect of becoming homeless. The funds collected during Heritage House Furniture’s charity promotion will be utilized by the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul specifically to aid families impacted by the pandemic, providing them with food and assisting in the payment of rent and electric bills. Due to the caring and generosity of our customers, we were able to collect $1,300 for the Little Flower Parish’s chapter of the SVDP.
How Can I Help?
The overwhelming success of our promotion has encouraged many customers to inquire about how they can help great causes like this in the future. Keep an eye out for our next charity promotion in early September! Not only will you be helping your community, your donation will entitle you to hundreds of dollars of savings toward furniture from Stressless, an innovative family-based line out of Norway that has spent 80 years producing the world’s most comfortable chairs and sofas.
